Using energy-saving light bulbs can also surprise you with the results, especially when you make sure all unused lights are switched off. Using curtains can help heat your home and will let you save electricity by allowing your heater to consume less energy to maintain your desired temperature.

A general to keep in mind when trying to conserve energy is to never put heat-generating appliances side by side with those that are meant for low temperatures. For example, do not put your air conditioner where it is exposed to direct sunlight or do not place your oven near your refrigerator as this can make the latter consume more energy trying to cool the air inside it. You can also research on specific ways to conserve energy by checking out your appliances' manufacturers' websites. There are brands and models that are designed to consume less electricity when run on preset modes. You should take the time to learn how to operate your appliances to discover how you can use them more efficiently, not only in terms of saving on your electric consumption but also in using them properly.
